U.S Roadtrip: PA is for Pennsylvania (Philadelphia)

Leaving DC heading to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Just for a couple-of-hours-stop since it was on the way and we wanted to reach New York before bedtime. Philadelphia has so much history and I have learned so much during our stops on this road trip. The challenge now is to remember it...

Our first encounter with a Double-Decker bridge
Our first stop in Philadelphia was the Liberty Bell, which is an iconic symbol of American independence, located in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Once placed in the steeple of the Pennsylvania State House (now renamed Independence Hall), the bell today is located in the Liberty Bell Center in Independence National Historical Park. The bell was commissioned in 1752 by the Pennsylvania Provincial Assembly from the London firm of Lester and Pack, and was cast with the lettering "Proclaim LIBERTY Throughout all the Land unto all the Inhabitants Thereof", a Biblical reference from the Book of Leviticus (25:10). The bell first cracked when rung after its arrival in Philadelphia, and was twice recast by local workmen John Pass and John Stow, whose last names appear on the bell. In its early years, the bell was used to summon lawmakers to legislative sessions and to alert citizens about public meetings and proclamations. [text taken from Wikipedia]

The Liberty Bell... and the crack :-)
Next stop Independence Hall, one of the most important historical building in America. This is where the Declaration of Independence and the U.S Constitution were debated and adopted.

And from a distance...

Marlee, Noah and Benjamin Franklin :-)
Last historical stop the grave of Benjamin Franklin.

And a cultural, or maybe gastronomical, stop - a traditional Philly Cheese steak sandwich!!! One of Alex's absolute favorite foods!!
