U.S. Roadtrip: CT is for Connecticut

After our day in New York it was nice to get back to somewhat more country side areas. And we entered New England. Hartford, Connecticut was our next stop and we were staying we two older ladies(sisters) in Lyme, CT. The town where Lyme decease is named after because of the many cases of Lyme there. Apparently 25% of all the tics have Lyme there. Alex knew one of the sister for several years through emails and phone calls but never met her but she and her sister had a great place for us to stay. Alex had a conference in Hartford where he was one of the organizers so he would be gone quite a bit. However, me and the boys had the car so we went on some adventures.

The two sisters fed many of the wild animals and we got to see several of them. Here is a racoon (tvättbjörn :-)

Since we arrived very late the first day we spent at the house doing laundry and spending some time in their back yard. Always, carefully looking for tics on the kids.

The seconds day we decided to check out a fun park for the kids, The Dinosaur Place. It had a bunch of fun things to do such as a maze, great playground, splash pad, gold panning etc. We would not have time to do all the things so the boys got to pick something. They picked gold panning and gemstone "mining". Great pick, I thought, since they had never done that before and they got to bring something with them home :-)

Time to learn about gold panning
Obviously it would not be gold that they would find but something shiny that looked liked gold. They learned that it was pyrite.

Focus!

Raffi was too small to pan for gold but he enjoyed just watching his brothers :-)

The second activity was to look for gemstones in a cave :-)

After having fun at the park we went back to the house to get ready for a fancy dinner. We were able to join the dinner at the conference. The boys had to get cleaned up and dressed up.

A monument in down town Hartford for the men who died in the civil war

Just a normal picture of us dressed up :-)

Watching the life in a city

Our last day, Sunday, and time to leave...

Raffi with his sock monkey that one of the sisters made him (all boys got one)

We saw a bob cat right before we left!!

Quick visit to a a really fun playground in Hartford while pappa had to do a last speech at the conference
Next: New Hampshire...
