Fårö - trip to the big island, not as planned

We got up soon after 6am so get ready to go to Stora Karlsö (an island outside Gotland) for the day. A Christmas gift to the family from Mormor and Morfar. When we were almost there the company driving the boats to the island called and said that it was too windy to go. It was then 8am so not many things were open yet and we were about 1,5h from home. We bought some coffee and started making new plans…

Fist stop was Dalhem church which was just a spontaneous stop on the way to an old train track. The church ended up being an amazingly beautiful church, about 800 years old. The biggest church after the cathedral in Visby. The inside was covered with beautiful paintings important people and biblical events.

The church had the oldest stained glass in all of Gotland.

Gabriel played the piano in the church and the acoustics in the church was amazing.

After some more coffee and Mormor’s homemade bullar we went to our first planned adventure, a train ride on a train that was about 100 years old, between Dalhem and Roma.

Next stop, where we also enjoyed the lunch Mormor had prepared, a Viking village.

Marlee playing Viking chess.

The Viking fights were a little scary David thought.

Even David got a chance to try with his own tool 😂

We left the Viking villages and started the drive home. It had been a long fun day! But it was not over yet :-) On the way home we saw some fun raukar so we stopped and also found a lot of smultron (wild strawberries)!! So delicious!!!

Now we went home…
