Stop 3 - Statue of Liberty and Ellis island

Ao the kids and I spent our second day at the Statue of Liberty. We parked by Liberty Park in New Jersey where we took the boat over to the island. It was another hot day but today we were prepared worh lots of water and food. We had spent the night in a small house 30min from the park so I went to the grocery store and got pasta and other things to make a picnic with.

On the ferry

Manhattan

Passing Ellis Island, which we would visit after Statue of Liberty.

Picnic on Liberty island by the statue.

Making fun picture with the statue :-)

Tickling her :-)

The water mist sprays felt really good in the heat!

In the museum.

Ellis island, where around 12 million immigrants arrived between 1890s and 1950s. We were really tired when we arrived to island but walked around the museum for a little bit. We could have spent a lot more time there but we were tired and we needed to drive to Hartford Connecticut to pick up Alex.

Back at Liberty park, NJ and the train station that has not been used in a long time. Another quick picnic before heading out.

Stop 2 - Washington DC

Alex had to fly to Oklahoma for an event so me and the boys had two days to explore. We dropped him off in Washington DC in the morning and would pick him up in Hartford, Connecticut, late the next day. We spent the first day in DC where we walked around and visited the Washington monument and the Lincoln memorial. It was so hot so we only lasted about two hours.

Mini road trip to New Hampshire and Camp Constitution

On the road again, heading to New Hampshire and Camp Constitution. This year we did the 20h drive during 4.5 days instead of 2.5 so we did more stops than usual.

First night at an hotel.

First tourist stop was the Vollis Simpson Whirligig park. Vollis built a lot of creations thst would move in the wind of all different sizes. They have now been put up for display in a little town in North Carolina, where he lived.

Windows and sliding doors are in!!

At our last visits to de Leon springs we found the windows and sliding doors installed!! Very exciting  the windows affected by the design flaw were yet not in as they were ordered later.

One of the kids’ bedrooms. You can see how the wall is built up to cover the roof outside.

The boys found some scrap wood in de Leon springs and built a quarter pipe with it and some help from our neighbor.

Beach and 4th of July!

As we are still finishing up math (some of the boys really dragged their feet this year) we are still enjoying the beach. On 4th of July we spent time on the beach with somw friends before heading over to see the fire works in Rockefeller park. We walked up on the bridge to get a good view. There were so many people gathered to the fireworks.

Marlee made a very American dessert. :-)

A birthday party at SkyZone trampoline park.

She loves her doggie :-)
